Interest Ignition

Interest Ignition is the switch that decides whether caring ever reaches the gate. It is not whether you can engage; it is what kind of key your engagement requires.

It works as a pair with Starting Gate. When interest is present, the signal flows, the gate drops, and starting feels like nothing. When interest is absent, the gate sits at its full height no matter how much the task matters. This is why mattering and activating can be completely different properties of the same task.

The range

More selective
Deep, near-effortless engagement for matching content and near-zero activation for everything else, including things you genuinely care about. Confusing for everyone, including you. Inside the interest domain, the depth and speed are exceptional.
Less selective
Motivation spreads broadly, so most tasks can start without a special key. The trade is shallower peaks: fewer of the consuming, all-night deep dives that a highly selective switch delivers when it fires.

What it is not

Not Inner Drive
Inner Drive is whether the content matters to you. Interest Ignition decides whether that mattering converts into a start. You can care intensely about something your switch will not fire for, and that mismatch is the whole story of many hard weeks.
Not a preference
The switch is functional; it simply requires a specific type of key. That is a wiring fact, not a taste you could talk yourself out of.

I renovated my entire filing system at 1am and could not open one form for three weeks.
