Feeling Forecast

Feeling Forecast is not what you feel now. It is how clearly you can preview what a future moment will feel like before it arrives.

The preview is built from recombined memories of similar past moments, with emotional texture layered on top. That texture is planning information: it shapes what you pursue, what you avoid, and whether looking forward to something is even available.

The range

Lower
Future events feel emotionally opaque. Choices get made on rational grounds, unswayed by pre-lived dread, but without the motivational information a preview would provide: anticipatory pleasure is limited, events that should generate excitement do not, and how things actually feel arrives as a surprise, sometimes as overwhelm or regret.
Calibrated (middle)
The sweet spot. Future emotional states are available as planning inputs with moderate reliability, and both anticipatory pleasure and anticipatory dread contribute constructively. Systematic errors like impact bias persist but do not dominate.
Higher
Future feelings are vividly simulated and can feel nearly as real as present experience, enabling rich anticipation and knowing viscerally what you are working toward. At saturation the same vividness pre-lives negative futures with real physiological activation, drives over-planning around predicted feelings, and makes it hard to adapt when reality diverges from the vivid preview.

It depends

Current mood
Your present emotional state biases which memories the simulation is built from, so a bad day forecasts darker futures.
Cognitive load
High load during forecasting reduces the fidelity of the preview.
Familiarity
Forecasts are most accurate for event types you have lived before and least accurate for the genuinely novel, where there is no emotional reference material.

Your baseline is the architecture. Today's forecast quality is that baseline run through today's mood, load, and material.

What it is not

Not emotional reactivity
Reactivity is how intensely you respond when the event actually happens. Feeling Forecast is the accuracy and richness of the simulated feeling beforehand. You can forecast vividly yet react moderately on the day, or react strongly to events you never saw coming emotionally.
Not scenario-building
General predictive modeling governs how rich your future scenarios are; Feeling Forecast is the emotional channel within them. A person can model futures brilliantly in a strategic sense and still be inaccurate about how those futures will feel.
