Error Radar is not perfectionism and it is not self-criticism. It is how quickly your system notices that was not what I meant.

The first ping is pre-conscious: the detection signal fires before you are even aware of the error, and a slower second signal then decides how much the error matters. What you can work with is the second step, the appraisal, not the ping itself.

Saturation curve: the middle tends to work best; both extremes cost something.

Lower

Errors, drift, and quality mismatches do not reliably register in the moment; problems surface through external feedback or later review. Self-correction is cheap in the short term and the work flows unhesitatingly, but downstream rework accumulates and the same mistakes can repeat.

Calibrated (middle)

The sweet spot. Detection is proportional to what errors actually cost: mismatches register, corrections happen, and monitoring serves the execution instead of consuming it.

Higher

Deviation registers quickly and strongly, which can produce excellent quality control and rapid self-correction. At saturation, the watching itself interferes: monitoring consumes attention, increases hesitation, and makes ordinary imperfection feel disproportionately consequential.

It depends

Stress
Monitoring load rises under stress, so the same person can flip from under-catching to over-catching depending on state.
Cognitive load
Load can trigger a self-amplifying loop: monitoring gets recruited to protect quality, consumes the very capacity it is protecting, and trying harder makes performance worse.
Working memory state
Detection needs the intention held in mind to compare against. When that reference drops, errors slip through with the radar itself fully intact.

The baseline is the architecture; today's catch rate is the state it is running in.

What it is not

Not Self-Check
Error Radar is narrow and task-focused: did the action match the intended result? Self-Check is broader and social: how am I landing in this situation? One guards output quality; the other guards self-presentation and fit.
Not Attribution Style
Error Radar detects that a mismatch occurred. Attribution Style decides what it means afterward. You can notice errors accurately and still interpret them harshly, leniently, or constructively; those are different dials.
