Emotional Modulation

Emotional Modulation is not whether you feel. It is what you can do once the feeling is already underway.

It works as a pair with Emotional Amplitude. Amplitude sets how big the wave is; Modulation is your ability to ride it. What your emotional life actually feels like is the ratio between the two, never either one alone. Big feelings with strong steering is a workable, vivid system. Modest feelings with no steering can still flood.

The range

Lower
Feelings run their full arc. Once a wave starts it mostly has to finish, recovery waits until it does, and on hard days flooding can be the default rather than the exception. What people get from you is unfiltered and real; the wave just decides the schedule.
Higher
Intensity can be turned down mid-flight and the system settles quickly afterward. The cost is invisible: steering spends real energy every time it runs, and at the far end it can shade into quietly suppressing feelings that needed to be felt.

What it is not

Not Emotional Amplitude
Amplitude is the size of the incoming wave. Modulation is what you can do about it once it lands. Reacting strongly and steering poorly are different dials, and they are often confused for each other.
Not Recovery Rate
Modulation works during the wave; Recovery Rate is the refill afterward. They are linked in one direction: a system that cannot settle cannot start recovering, which is one reason rest sometimes does not restore.

It is not that I feel too much. It is that once it starts, there is no dial.
