Attention Drift
Attention Drift is the pull that takes the wheel from the inside.
Not the loud office or the buzzing phone, but your own mind moving off the thread toward a thought, a memory, a tangent, often noticed only once you are already far from where you meant to be.
The range
- Lower
- Attention anchors. Once engaged, you tend to stay, and you leave a thread on purpose rather than by accident. This reads as reliable focus more than anything remarkable.
- Higher
- Internal thought competes hard with the task and frequently wins, often without you noticing in the moment. The same wiring that derails a dull task is what produces richly connected, exploratory thinking.
What it is not
- Not outside distraction
- Attention Drift is the pull of internally generated thought. Holding focus against a noisy environment is a separate capacity. You can be hard to distract from outside and still drift from inside.
I did not choose to leave the task. I just looked up and discovered I had.
